What are custom team jerseys?

Custom team jerseys are performance-fabric uniforms decorated by dye sublimation, which bonds full-colour designs, numbers, and player names into the fibre rather than printing on top of it. Schools, clubs, and corporate leagues order them in bulk, with a free mockup before production.

About custom team jerseys

A jersey has one job that no other garment in a merch catalogue has: it has to identify a specific person at a distance, repeatedly, under stress, and still look like part of a set. That is why jerseys are decorated differently from everything else we make, and why the method matters more than the blank.

We build custom jerseys on lightweight performance knit and decorate them by dye sublimation. Sublimation turns the ink into a gas that bonds into the polyester fibre itself, so the design becomes part of the fabric rather than a layer sitting on it. Numbers do not crack, names do not peel, and edge-to-edge colour and side panels are possible in a way screen printing cannot match.

School and club teams order them as competition kit, corporate leagues order them for tournaments and charity events, and event organizers order them as staff identification where visibility is the point. Runs are produced as a single made-to-order batch with a free mockup before production.

Delivered per-unit pricing for custom team jerseys runs about $20–$45 at 50, $18–$39 at 100, and $16–$34 at 250 or more, with standard US shipping to one address included at every tier.

Best for

  • School and club competition kit for athletic programs
  • Corporate leagues, tournaments, and charity sports events
  • Event staff and volunteer identification where visibility matters
  • Spirit and supporter jerseys sold alongside a team programme

Why sublimation is the right method for jerseys

Sublimation is the only decoration method where the design becomes part of the fabric. Under heat, the ink converts directly to a gas and bonds into the polyester fibre, so there is nothing sitting on the surface to crack, peel, or stiffen. A sublimated number looks identical in month one and month twelve, which is the whole argument for using it on a garment that gets washed after every use.

It also removes the per-colour cost that shapes every other method. A full-colour gradient, a photographic panel, or edge-to-edge colour that runs off the hem costs the same as a single-colour design, because there are no screens to set up. That is why jerseys can carry designs that would be unaffordable on a screen-printed tee.

The constraint is the fabric. Sublimation needs polyester to bond to, so it does not work on cotton, and it cannot print white, because the process adds colour rather than opacity. Any white in your design is the fabric showing through, which is worth understanding before you finalize artwork on a coloured base.

Numbers, names, and roster personalization

Numbers and player names are sublimated with the rest of the design rather than added afterwards, which means each jersey is individually laid out before production. That sounds like it should be expensive and it largely is not, because there is no per-piece setup the way there is with screens or embroidery: a fifty-jersey roster with fifty different names and numbers prints as one job.

What it does require is a locked roster. Because personalization happens at the printing stage rather than after it, a name added or corrected after production starts is a new jersey, not an alteration. Collect the roster, the numbers, and the sizes together in one form and confirm all three before you approve the mockup.

We lay out every name and number in the mockup so you can check spellings and digits before anything is produced. It is the single most useful five minutes anyone spends on a jersey order.

What custom jerseys cost in bulk

Jersey pricing behaves differently from the rest of the catalogue because the design complexity does not affect the price. A one-colour jersey and a full-colour jersey with side panels, a gradient, and per-player names cost the same, which is unusual and worth planning around: if you are going to sublimate at all, there is no financial reason to hold back on the design.

The cost drivers are quantity and the blank. Because there is no screen setup to amortize, the per-piece price falls less dramatically with volume than on a screen-printed garment, though it still falls. For a school with several teams, ordering them together on one run is worth more than ordering each team separately.

Jerseys for schools, clubs, and corporate teams

School and club programmes usually order jerseys against a season deadline, and the roster is the bottleneck rather than production. Numbers get reassigned, players join late, and sizes come back incomplete. Build a week of slack into the timeline for that specifically, because the production time itself is predictable and the roster collection is not.

Corporate leagues and charity tournaments order jerseys as a one-off, and the usual mistake is treating them like a t-shirt order: picking a design that would work screen printed and leaving the method's advantages unused. If you are sublimating, use the full colour and the edge-to-edge coverage, because they are free.

Supporter jerseys sold alongside a team programme are a genuine fundraising item for schools, since a jersey carries a higher sale price than a tee and the margin scales with it. Our school spirit wear page covers how those programmes are usually run.

Related apparel

Jerseys usually sit alongside performance shirts for training and warm-ups, where the same polyester fabric is decorated more simply and costs less.

For the layer that goes over competition kit, joggers and hoodies are what most programmes add, and caps round out a team lineup.

Custom team jerseys, frequently asked questions

Apparel is priced per piece and produced as a single made-to-order run, and the per-piece price steps down as the run grows: the published bands are read at 50, 100, and 250 or more. The reason is that the print or embroidery setup is a one-time cost divided across the whole order. Mix sizes freely within a run at no extra cost. Tell us your quantity in a quote request and we'll price that run.

Yes, and it does not add a per-piece setup charge the way embroidery or screen printing would. Names and numbers are sublimated with the rest of the design, so a fifty-jersey roster with fifty different combinations prints as one job. The roster must be final before production starts, because a correction means a new jersey.

Dye sublimation uses heat to turn ink into a gas that bonds directly into polyester fibre, so the design becomes part of the fabric instead of a layer on top of it. Nothing cracks, peels, or stiffens, and full-colour designs cost the same as single-colour ones because there are no screens to set up.

No. Sublimation needs polyester to bond to, so it only works on performance-fabric jerseys. For a cotton garment we would screen print or use DTF instead. If you want a cotton feel with sublimated decoration, tell us and we will recommend the closest blend that still takes the process properly.

Not as printed ink. Sublimation adds colour rather than opacity, so any white in a design is the base fabric showing through. That is fine on a white or light jersey and impossible on a dark one, which is worth knowing before you finalize artwork. We will flag it at mockup if your design assumes printed white.

About two to three weeks from approved mockup. The production time is predictable; what usually delays a jersey order is collecting a final roster with names, numbers, and sizes. Build a week of slack in for that and tell us your first-game date so we can work backwards from it.

You get an instant mockup, and a full quote by the next business morning. Production typically runs about two weeks from approved mockup to delivery, depending on quantity. Working to an event date? Tell us up front and we'll build a timeline that hits it.

A vector logo (AI, EPS, SVG, or PDF) gives the cleanest result, but a high-resolution PNG works too. Lay it out yourself in the Design Studio, or just send the file and we'll set up a free mockup for you. You approve exactly how it looks before production.
