Group order size calculator
Ordering shirts for a group and can't collect everyone's size? Enter your headcount and group type and this tool suggests an S–XL breakdown from common group-order size curves, then sends it straight to a free quote.
How do companies manage size and address collection for group custom t-shirt orders?
Most companies collect everything on one sheet: a single online form where each person enters their size (and, for ship-to-home orders, their mailing address). You order to that exact breakdown and, if needed, split the run to individual addresses, both priced in your quote. When you can't reach everyone, use this calculator to estimate a realistic size curve instead of an even split, then reconcile as replies come in.
Why groups over-order M/L, and run out of the tails
The single most common bulk-apparel mistake is ordering an even split , the same number of every size. Real groups don't distribute evenly. Most adult orders cluster in the middle, around L and XL, with fewer at the extremes. Order a flat split and you end up with a stack of XS nobody claims and a shortage of the sizes people actually asked for.
The fix is a size curve: a weighting that puts more of the order in the middle sizes and a sensible tail on either end. This calculator uses the same starting curves published on our size guide : one for mixed adult groups, one for youth-heavy school orders, and one weighted toward the middle for walk-up event giveaways where you can't collect sizes at all. Pick the closest match, enter your headcount, and you'll get a breakdown that's far closer to reality than an even split.
It's a starting point, not a spec. Whenever you can, collect real sizes: a quick form beats any curve. But when you can't, or you just need a defensible number to price against, this gets you close. For the whole approach, including how to run a size-collection form, see our guide to collecting team apparel sizes.
A common starting split for a mixed adult group. Most orders center on L and XL; adjust up a size for older or larger groups, down for youth-heavy ones.
| Size | Suggested qty | Share |
|---|---|---|
| S | 9 | 15% |
| M | 15 | 25% |
| L | 17 | 28% |
| XL | 12 | 20% |
| 2XL | 7 | 12% |
| Total | 60 | 100% |
