How much does custom merch cost?
A straight answer with real per-unit ranges by product and quantity — plus what moves the price and how to budget a run. For an exact, itemized number, a free quote takes minutes.
Quick answer
Custom merch typically runs $0.50–$3 per unit for small items like pens and stickers, $8–$18 for t-shirts, totes, and mugs, and $25–$55 for premium pieces like hoodies, quarter-zips, and backpacks. Per-unit cost falls as quantity rises, since one-time setup is spread across more pieces. Most orders start at a 25–50 unit minimum.
Custom merch doesn't have a single sticker price — it's quoted per project, because the same hoodie can cost wildly different amounts depending on how many you order, how it's decorated, and how many print locations you use. The ranges below are realistic, decorated per-unit ballparks to help you budget. For the exact figure, our free quote itemizes everything before you commit.

What drives the price
Quantity
The biggest lever by far. One-time setup is spread across the run, so per-piece cost drops steadily as you order more — often 30–50% cheaper per unit at 250 pieces versus 25.
The base product
A heavyweight, premium garment costs more than a basic one — and is worth it for items meant to be kept. The undecorated product is the floor your decorated price builds on.
Decoration method
Screen printing is cheapest at volume; embroidery carries a digitizing setup and higher per-piece cost; full-color and DTG suit detailed art but cost more per unit. The method follows the artwork.
Print locations
Each additional print location (left chest plus a full back, say) adds setup and cost. A single-location logo is the most economical.
Kitting & shipping
Packing items into kits and shipping per recipient (rather than to one address) adds handling cost — worth it for onboarding and gifting, but a factor to budget for.

Custom merch cost FAQ
- How much does it cost to make 50 custom hoodies?
- A run of 50 custom hoodies typically lands around $30–$42 per piece decorated, or roughly $1,500–$2,100 total, depending on the product, decoration method, and number of print locations. Ordering 100+ brings the per-piece cost down toward $26–$36. We itemize every quote so you see exactly what drives the number.
- How much do custom t-shirts cost in bulk?
- Bulk custom t-shirts generally run $8–$12 per shirt at 100 pieces and $6–$10 at 250+, versus $12–$18 at a 25-piece minimum. Screen printing gets cheaper per piece as quantity rises because the one-time screen setup is spread across more shirts.
- Why does the per-piece price drop when I order more?
- Most decoration has a fixed setup cost — burning a screen per color, or digitizing an embroidery file. That cost is the same whether you make 25 pieces or 500, so spreading it across a larger run lowers the cost of each individual piece. Quantity is the single biggest lever on price.
- Are there setup fees on top of the per-unit price?
- Often, yes — a one-time setup fee per design covers preparing your artwork for production (a screen per color, or an embroidery stitch file). It's charged once, not per piece, and on reorders of the same artwork it's usually already done. Your quote breaks this out clearly.
- What's the minimum order for custom merch?
- Most items start around 25–50 units, which keeps per-piece pricing sensible while the decoration is set up. Some items, like stickers, have lower minimums. Tell us your quantity and we'll confirm exactly what's possible.
- Is the mockup and quote really free?
- Yes — mockups and quotes are always free and carry no obligation. You see a visual proof and an itemized price before committing a cent, and nothing is produced until you approve it.
