What are custom jackets and who orders them?

Custom jackets are branded outerwear, usually softshell or coach's jackets, decorated with an embroidered logo and made to order. Companies order them as premium staff and client apparel, crews order them as working outerwear, and schools order them for coaches and staff. Runs are produced as a single made-to-order batch with a free mockup before production.

About custom jackets

A jacket is the highest-value piece of apparel most organizations ever order, and it behaves differently from everything else in a merch program. Nobody wears a company jacket ironically or leaves it in a drawer: outerwear either earns a place in someone's rotation or it does not get worn at all. That makes the blank choice and the restraint of the branding matter more here than on any tee.

We build custom jackets with logo on softshell and coach's jacket blanks: wind-resistant faces, a lining that suits an office as well as a truck cab, and a cut that layers over a polo or a hoodie without pulling across the shoulders. Embroidery is the default decoration because it is the only method that still looks right after two winters of real wear.

Companies order jackets for client-facing staff and executive gifting, field crews order them as the outer layer that carries the logo onto every site, and schools order them for coaches and program staff. Everything runs from 50 units with a free mockup before a single jacket is made.

Delivered per-unit pricing for custom jackets runs about $35–$70 at 50, $31–$61 at 100, and $27–$53 at 250 or more, with standard US shipping to one address included at every tier.

Best for

  • Client-facing staff and executive gifting for company swag programs
  • Field crews and franchise teams who work outdoors year round
  • School coaches, athletic staff, and program leadership
  • Conference and trade-show staff who need to look sharp on a cold floor

Softshell vs coach's jacket

The two styles answer different questions. A softshell is the everyday work jacket: a bonded outer face that turns wind and light rain, a brushed or fleece-backed interior for warmth, and enough structure that it holds its shape on a hanger and on a person. It is the right call when the jacket is genuinely functional outerwear that someone will wear four days a week.

A coach's jacket is lighter, looser, and unlined or lightly lined, with snap fastenings and a cut that reads as casual rather than technical. It is the better choice for a team, a school program, or an event where the jacket is as much an identity piece as a warm layer, and it costs meaningfully less per piece, which matters when you are outfitting a whole squad rather than a leadership team.

If you are ordering for a mixed group, it is usually cleaner to pick one style for everyone than to split the run. A single style keeps the program looking coherent in photographs and keeps the per-piece price on one volume break instead of two smaller ones.

Decoration options for jackets

Embroidery is the default and it is not a close call. Stitched thread on a jacket face survives weather, abrasion, and years of washing in a way no applied graphic does, and it reads as the quality the garment is meant to signal. A left-chest logo is the standard placement; a larger back mark works well on coach's jackets and on crew outerwear where the jacket needs to identify someone from a distance.

Heat transfer and DTF are available and they are the honest answer for artwork embroidery cannot do well: a photographic image, a fine gradient, or a large multi-colour graphic that would become a stiff, heavy embroidered panel. On a technical softshell face they need care, because the bonded membrane limits how much heat can be applied, and we will tell you up front if your artwork and your chosen blank are a bad pairing rather than finding out at production.

Whatever the method, keep the branding smaller than instinct suggests. A restrained mark is what makes a jacket something people wear on a weekend, and a jacket worn on a weekend is the only kind that earns back what it cost.

What custom jackets cost in bulk

Jackets sit at the premium end of an apparel budget, and the cost drivers are different from a tee. The blank is the dominant line rather than the decoration: a softshell shell fabric with a bonded lining simply costs more than a jersey knit, and that gap does not close much with volume. Embroidery is priced by stitch count and charged as a one-time digitizing setup plus a per-piece run charge, so a compact left-chest logo is far cheaper across a run than a large back design.

Because the blank dominates, the per-piece price falls less steeply with quantity here than it does on tees or totes. Ordering more still helps, but the bigger lever on a jacket budget is the style and the decoration size, which is worth knowing before you set a number with your finance team.

Jackets for companies, crews, and schools

For companies, a jacket is the piece of swag that signals seniority and care, which makes it a natural fit for client gifting and for the leadership tier of a company swag program. It is also the item most likely to be worn in front of a customer, so the mark on it deserves more thought than the one on an internal tee.

For crews, the jacket is working outerwear before it is branding: it needs to survive a job site and it needs a name or a role on it often enough that we build most crew orders with per-person personalization. Our custom work shirts page covers the full trades lineup, and a jacket is usually the last piece added to it.

For schools, jackets belong to coaches, athletic staff, and program leadership rather than to the student body, where a hoodie does the same job for a quarter of the cost. If you are outfitting students, look at varsity jackets instead: that is a different garment with a different purpose.

Related apparel

Jackets sit at the top of a layering system, and most orders that include them also include something underneath. Quarter-zips are the natural mid-layer for a client-facing team, and hoodies are the everyday alternative for a crew or a student group.

For a school or team program built around outerwear rather than a work uniform, varsity jackets are the more appropriate garment and carry their own page.

Custom jackets, frequently asked questions

Apparel is priced per piece and produced as a single made-to-order run, and the per-piece price steps down as the run grows: the published bands are read at 50, 100, and 250 or more. The reason is that the print or embroidery setup is a one-time cost divided across the whole order. Mix sizes freely within a run at no extra cost. Tell us your quantity in a quote request and we'll price that run.

Yes, and embroidery is what we recommend for almost every jacket order. Stitched thread survives weather and washing far better than an applied graphic, and it reads as the quality the garment is meant to signal. A left-chest logo is standard; larger back marks work well on coach's jackets. We digitize your logo once and keep it on file so reorders match exactly.

There is no quantity you have to reach. That is the point where the one-time embroidery digitizing spreads sensibly across the run. Tell us the quantity you need in your quote request and we will price that run.

A softshell is functional outerwear: a bonded, wind-resistant face with a warm interior and enough structure to hold its shape, suited to someone wearing it several days a week. A coach's jacket is lighter, looser, snap-fastened, and unlined or lightly lined, which makes it better for teams and events and noticeably cheaper per piece.

About two to three weeks from approved mockup, and the mockup comes back the next business morning. Embroidered outerwear runs slightly longer than printed apparel because digitizing and stitch-out happen before the run. Tell us your in-hand date and we will work backwards from it.

Yes. We personalize at the point of embroidery, so a run of fifty jackets can carry fifty different names without splitting into separate orders. The usual layout is the company logo left chest with the name opposite or beneath it. Send the name list and we will lay it out in the mockup so you can check every spelling first.

You get an instant mockup, and a full quote by the next business morning. Production typically runs about two weeks from approved mockup to delivery, depending on quantity. Working to an event date? Tell us up front and we'll build a timeline that hits it.

A vector logo (AI, EPS, SVG, or PDF) gives the cleanest result, but a high-resolution PNG works too. Lay it out yourself in the Design Studio, or just send the file and we'll set up a free mockup for you. You approve exactly how it looks before production.
