What are custom aprons used for?

Custom aprons are branded bib or waist aprons for restaurants, cafes, bakeries, and events, decorated with an embroidered or printed logo on the chest or pocket. They are ordered in bulk and are one of the few uniform items that is also genuinely useful merchandise.

About custom aprons

An apron is the most visible thing a hospitality team wears and the least considered thing most of them order. It is at eye level across a counter, it is in every photograph of the pass, and it is the one garment a customer looks at while waiting. A good one makes a small operation look established; a thin, faded one does the opposite very efficiently.

We make custom aprons in bib and waist styles on durable cotton canvas and poly-cotton blends, with reinforced stitching at the neck strap and the tie anchor points, which is where cheap aprons fail first. Decoration runs to embroidery for a compact chest logo or screen print for larger artwork across the bib.

Restaurants, cafes, bakeries, breweries, and food trucks order them as uniform; event caterers and cooking schools order them per event; and retailers order them for staff and, increasingly, to sell. Runs are produced as a single made-to-order batch with a free mockup.

Delivered per-unit pricing for custom aprons runs about $12–$25 at 50, $11–$22 at 100, and $9–$19 at 250 or more, with standard US shipping to one address included at every tier.

Best for

  • Restaurants, cafes, and bakeries standardizing front-of-house uniform
  • Breweries, food trucks, and market stalls
  • Event catering, cooking schools, and demonstration kitchens
  • Retail staff aprons, and branded aprons sold as merchandise

Bib aprons vs waist aprons

A bib apron covers from the chest down and is what most people picture: it protects clothing properly, it gives you a large flat area at chest height for a logo, and it reads as kitchen or barista. It is the default for anyone working with food, heat, or liquid.

A waist apron covers from the waist and is faster to put on and take off, cooler to work in, and better suited to front-of-house service where staff are moving between tables rather than standing at a station. It gives you far less branding area, usually a pocket-level mark rather than a chest one, which is a real trade-off worth making deliberately.

Plenty of operations run both: bibs in the kitchen, waist aprons on the floor. If you do, keep the logo treatment consistent between them so the team still reads as one team from across the room.

Decoration options for aprons

Embroidery is the more durable choice and the one that looks most established. Canvas takes stitching beautifully, a chest-level embroidered logo has depth that reads across a counter, and it survives commercial laundering, which aprons get a great deal of. It is priced with a one-time digitizing charge plus a per-piece run cost.

Screen printing is the better choice when the artwork is large, multi-colour, or illustrative, the kind of full-bib design a brewery or a market stall might want. It is cheaper per piece at volume and it handles detail that would be lost in thread. The trade-off is durability under repeated hot washing, which is a genuine consideration for a garment that gets bleached.

DTF covers full-colour artwork at lower quantities without a per-colour setup. For a run of fifty aprons with a detailed multi-colour logo it is often the most sensible economics, and on canvas it holds up better than it does on a stretchy knit.

What custom aprons cost in bulk

Aprons are one of the cheaper branded garments to produce, because the construction is simple and there is no sizing complexity: most styles are one size with adjustable straps, which means no size run to collect and no leftover stock in sizes nobody wears. That alone makes them the easiest uniform item to order.

The per-piece price falls with quantity in the usual way as the one-time setup spreads across the run. Because there is no size run, aprons are also unusually easy to over-order slightly, which is worth doing: aprons get stained, borrowed, and taken home, and a shelf of spares in the same dye lot is worth more than a perfectly calculated order.

Aprons for hospitality and for retail

For hospitality, the apron is uniform and should be treated as such: order enough for a rotation, expect replacement on a cycle, and pick a colour that hides the specific things your kitchen spills. Darker aprons stay presentable longer, which is not a design opinion so much as an operational one.

For retail and for brands with a food or craft identity, aprons increasingly sell rather than just being worn. A well-made canvas apron with a restrained logo is a real product with a real price, and it is one of the few uniform items that customers actually want to buy. If you are considering that, order the better blank: the version that works as merchandise is not the version that works as a disposable uniform.

Franchise and multi-site operations should think about consistency first. We keep the blank, colour, thread, and placement on file so site four matches site one, and our franchise apparel page covers how those programmes usually run.

Related apparel

Aprons are usually ordered alongside the shirts underneath them. Custom work shirts covers the durable tees and polos most hospitality and trade teams wear, and caps round out a front-of-house uniform.

For a full crew lineup with a spec kept on file for reorders, the crew apparel programme is where most multi-site operations end up.

Custom aprons, frequently asked questions

Everything is priced per unit and produced as a single made-to-order run, and the per-unit price steps down as the run grows: the published bands are read at 50, 100, and 250 or more. The one-time decoration setup is divided across the whole order, which is why the same item costs less each at a higher quantity. Tell us your quantity in a quote request and we'll price that run.

Most styles are one size with an adjustable neck strap and long waist ties, so there is no size run to collect, which makes aprons the simplest uniform item to order. If you need a specific length or a plus-size cut for part of your team, tell us in your quote request and we will confirm what is available.

Embroider a compact chest logo: canvas takes stitching well, it has depth that reads across a counter, and it survives commercial laundering. Print if the artwork is large, illustrative, or multi-colour, where thread would lose the detail. We will recommend one in your free mockup based on your specific logo.

There is no quantity you have to reach, and because aprons are one size, a run is easier to justify than it is on a sized garment: they are shared, stained, and replaced, so a rotation plus spares reaches that number quickly for most operations.

Bib aprons for anyone working with food, heat, or liquid, because they actually protect clothing and give you a chest-height branding area. Waist aprons for front-of-house service, where speed and comfort matter more than coverage. Many restaurants run both and keep the logo treatment consistent across them.

Yes, and a well-made canvas apron with a restrained logo sells better than most branded merchandise. If that is the plan, order the better blank: the apron that works as retail is not the same one that works as a hard-wearing disposable uniform. Tell us it is for resale and we will quote accordingly.

You get an instant mockup, and a full quote by the next business morning. Production typically runs about two weeks from approved mockup to delivery, depending on quantity. Working to an event date? Tell us up front and we'll build a timeline that hits it.

A vector logo (AI, EPS, SVG, or PDF) gives the cleanest result, but a high-resolution PNG works too. Lay it out yourself in the Design Studio, or just send the file and we'll set up a free mockup for you. You approve exactly how it looks before production.
