VBS shirt ideas for your vacation Bible school week
What should a VBS shirt have on it?
A good VBS shirt carries three things: your church name, the year, and one short line kids can read from across the fellowship hall. Give every crew its own shirt color so leaders can count heads at a glance, and print volunteer roles on the back so parents know who to ask. Keep the front to one or two ink colors and the shirts stay affordable.

A vacation Bible school week runs on recognition. Kids need to find their crew leader in a crowded gym, parents at pickup need to know who is staff, and the photos everyone shares afterward look better when the whole room matches. The shirt is doing a job before it is a keepsake.
The designs below avoid any published curriculum theme on purpose, so they work for whatever program your church runs this summer. Swap in your church name and year, pick a crew color system, and open any idea in the studio to see it on a real blank.

What to sort out before you order.

Order kid sizes by the roster, not a guess
Collect sizes on the registration form. VBS runs heavy on youth small and medium, and a short youth run is the most common reason a crew ends up in mismatched shirts.

One design, several shirt colors
Printing the same art on four or five shirt colors gives you a crew system without paying for extra screens, because the ink stays the same.

Back prints for anyone in charge
Leaders, kitchen, check-in and first aid get the role on the back. It is the cheapest safety feature your week will have.
When to order
Most VBS weeks land in June and July, so spring is when these orders get placed.
For a VBS week starting mid-June (Monday, June 14, 2027), request your quote by Monday, May 17, 2027 and approve the mockup by Monday, May 24, 2027.

Before you order.
How far ahead should we order VBS shirts?
Plan on about four weeks from your first quote request to shirts in hand: a quote by the next business morning, a few days to approve the mockup, about two weeks of production and about one week of shipping. For a June week, that means getting a quote in early May.
Can we mix youth and adult sizes in one VBS order?
Yes. Youth and adult sizes print in the same run at one price per piece, including 3XL and up. Send the size breakdown from your registration form and the quote covers every size.
Can we use our VBS curriculum theme artwork?
Only if your church has the publisher's written permission to print it. Curriculum themes and their artwork are owned by the publisher. The ideas on this page are original so you can print them without that permission.
Is it cheaper to print one color on every crew shirt?
Yes. Ink colors drive the print cost, shirt colors mostly do not. One ink color on five different shirt colors usually costs about the same as one ink color on one shirt color.
Can we order fewer than 50 shirts for a small VBS?
Published prices are read at 50, 100 and 250 pieces, which are price points, not a floor. Send your real headcount and we quote that run.
