Field day shirt ideas for teams, grades and staff

What is a good field day shirt design?

A good field day shirt is mostly color. Give each grade or team its own shirt color, print one simple front design in a single ink, and put staff and volunteer roles in big letters on the back. Kids will grow out of the shirt by next year, so keep it inexpensive and easy to read across a field.

Field day shirts solve a logistics problem. Two hundred kids on a field, a dozen stations and a schedule that slips by lunch: color-coded shirts let teachers find their class from fifty yards away and help volunteers know who goes where next.

Most schools order one design printed on four to six shirt colors, one per grade or team. The ideas below keep the art simple so a single ink color works on every shirt, and they skip school mascots so you can use them without asking anyone's permission.

Pick one, then make it yours.

Every idea opens in the design studio on the suggested blank. Change the words, the shirt color or the print method there, and the free mockup comes with your quote.

The panels above are type sketches of each idea, not photos of finished orders. Bracketed words stand in for your own names.

Planning

What to sort out before you order.

1

Pick shirt colors that read from far away

Blue, pink, forest green, rust and white are easy to tell apart on a sunny field. Avoid two grays or two darks next to each other.

2

Order youth sizes from enrollment

Use class lists to build the size breakdown and add ten percent extra youth small and medium for new students.

3

Shirts for staff and volunteers are part of the plan

Adults need to stand out from kids. Give them a color no grade is wearing.

When to order

Field day falls in the last few weeks of the school year, so orders go in during March and April.

For a field day in late May (Thursday, May 20, 2027), request your quote by Thursday, April 22, 2027 and approve the mockup by Thursday, April 29, 2027.

Itemized quote by the next business morning (CT). Then about 2 weeks of production plus 1 week of shipping.

Questions

Before you order.

When should a school order field day shirts?

At least four weeks before field day. For a late-May date, request a quote by late April so you have time to collect sizes and approve the mockup.

Can each grade have a different shirt color?

Yes. The same design prints on several shirt colors in one order. One ink color across every shirt keeps the print setup simple and the price close to a single-color run.

Can the school pay with a purchase order?

Yes. Schools and districts can pay Net 30 on an approved purchase order, and a W-9 is available on request.

Can we use our school mascot on field day shirts?

If your school owns or has permission to use the mascot artwork, yes, upload it in the studio. The ideas on this page leave mascots out so they work for any school.
