Band and choir shirt ideas for school music programs

What goes on a band or choir shirt?

Band and choir shirts usually carry the program name, the year and a nod to the music: a section name, a staff line or a marking only musicians get. Many programs order a section shirt for rehearsals, a hoodie for travel and a dark tee that works under a concert jacket. Keep the program name readable from the stands.

Music programs order more apparel than most teams. There is the summer band camp shirt, the travel hoodie, the competition-day tee, the choir tour shirt and the section shirts students design themselves. Each one has a different job.

The ideas below lean on the inside jokes musicians actually make: rests, dynamics, section rivalries and very early call times. They use no school mascots, so they are free to print as is. Swap in your program name and open any idea in the studio.

Planning

What to sort out before you order.

1

Order band camp shirts before school ends

Band camp starts in late July. Collect sizes at the spring concert and order in June so shirts arrive before camp.

2

Let sections design their own

Section shirts work best when students pick the joke. Run all sections in one order so each design is priced on the combined run.

3

A dark tee for under uniforms

Marching uniforms are hot and the undershirt shows at the collar. A black or charcoal tee with a small mark is the most-worn shirt in the program.

When to order

Music programs order for band camp in June, for the fall competition season in August and for spring tours in February.

For band camp starting late July (Tuesday, July 27, 2027), request your quote by Tuesday, June 29, 2027 and approve the mockup by Tuesday, July 6, 2027.

Itemized quote by the next business morning (CT). Then about 2 weeks of production plus 1 week of shipping.

Questions

Before you order.

When should we order band camp shirts?

At least four weeks before camp starts. For a late-July band camp, request a quote by late June, which means collecting sizes before school ends.

Can each section have its own design in one order?

Yes. Several designs can run in one order and ship together to one address. Each design is priced on its own quantity, so tell us the count per section.

Can we print song lyrics on a choir shirt?

Only if the song is in the public domain or you have permission from the copyright holder. Short original lines like the ones on this page avoid the problem.

Can the band boosters pay instead of the school?

Yes. A booster club usually pays the Stripe invoice by card or ACH. If the school or district is paying, Net 30 on an approved purchase order is available.
